Understanding Tactile Flooring & Government Rules in Plain Words
Tactile flooring gives physical signals underfoot or via a white cane so visually impaired people can navigate buildings safely and independently. Here is how it works:
1. Warning Studs = “STOP / CAUTION”
Raised circular dots (Ø35mm × 5mm height). When a person steps on them or taps them with a white cane, they immediately know: “Stop here! A staircase, lift, escalator, or ramp edge is right ahead.”
2. Directional Strips = “WALK THIS WAY”
Raised continuous bars (280mm × 35mm × 5mm) with smooth rounded bullnose ends. They create a safe corridor guiding pedestrians from the main entrance gate to the reception desk, lift lobby, and accessible washroom.
